CBA faculty Present Collaborative Research in Family Business in the Arab World Conference

Dr Maria Opulencia of the Department of Management and Acting Dean Akinola Fadahunsi recently presented a paper in collaboration with Prof. Enrique Soriano, a World Bank Consultant on Family Business in Asia during the Family Business in the Arab World Conference hosted virtually by American University of Sharjah on November 4-5, 2020. The conference was attended by 390 scholars, business owners and experts from 50 different countries.

This year’s conference opening ceremonies were led by Sheikh Sultan Saoud Al Qassemi, acclaimed columnist and founder of the Barjeel Art Foundation, followed by the conference host Dr. Rodrigo Basco, Sheikh Saoud bin Khalid bin Khalid Al-Qassimi Chair in Family Business at American University of Sharjah and Dr. Andrea Calabrò, Co-Director of the IPAG Entrepreneurship and Family Business Center and Professor of Family Business & Entrepreneurship at IPAG Business School, Nice, France. The conference theme was  “Family Business in Emerging, Developing and Transitional Economies.” The conference was divided into several sessions including Founder Vs NextGen in Family Business, Succession in Family Business, Context in Family Business, Strategy in Family Business and Continuity in Family Business. Dr Opulencia and colleagues presented a paper entitled “Succession Dilemma: Evidence from a Philippine Family Business”.

Dr. Marleen Dieleman of NUS Business School in Singapore discussed Transformational Leadership in Family Business during the Closing Ceremony of the Conference.
